A California Special Election is set for Tuesday, November 8, 2005. One of the measures on the ballot is proposition 73, a proposed constitutional amendment for parental notification and a 48 hour wait before an abortion is performed on a minor. If passed, the California State Constitution will be amended to require that an abortionist notify at least one parent or guardian, of a minor girl under the age of 18, not less than 48 hours in advance of any abortion procedure (including the "Morning After Pill" RU486). If Prop 73 is rejected, the California abortion law will remain unchanged. Current law allows abortions on girls as young as 12 years old with no parental notification whatsoever.
