NASCAR and Jeff Gordon

Alex and I watched the NASCAR race at Darlington Speedway on TV tonight. We had never watched any form of car racing together before this one. What I am puzzled about was why, out of the 40 or so cars, Alex was rooting for Jeff Gordon? Gordon must have a great marketing campaign. So, that is the car that we both wanted to win. The number 24 car ended up in second place. I have to admit that it is a lot more fun to watch NASCAR with someone else and with something to cheer for. Otherwise, it is like watching a bunch of guys making four left turns, over and over and over and over again.
